ADENE – Agência para a Energia, is the Portuguese National Energy Agency, established in 2000 by the Portuguese Ministry of Environment-Spatial Planning and Energy as a non-profit organisation, with administrative and financial autonomy, with the mission "to promote activities of public interest in the energy area and the interface with other sector policies". ADENE is responsible for the definition and operationalization of strategic energy policies, working with all the economic sectors, and benefiting from the support of public entities, private entities and specialised market actors.

As a main reference, ADENE is the managing body for this National System for Energy and Indoor Air Quality Certification of Building's (SCE) and of the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency.

ADENE is recognized for its participation in several national and European projects in energy, energy efficiency and renewable energy, providing valuable expertise in these fields of action, namely regarding the definition and follow-up of energy policies. ADENE is also very dynamic in the communication area, targeting the different actors of the society, through dedicated communication events and specialized training sessions, being an accredited entity for education and training.

ADENE is a Member of the European Energy Network (EnR), the network of national energy agencies in Europe, an active participant in the International Energy Agency and is leader of the Concerted Action on Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.
